PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that there is a limit in the speeding up of reading speed when a monochrome image is read by arranging only a monochrome line sensor in a color line sensor. SOLUTION: In a color line sensor part 10, analog shift registers 13R, 13G and 13B are respectively arranged in the pixel rows 11R, 11G and 11B of R, G and B. Two analog shift registers 23o and 23e are disposed on both sides of a pixel row 21 in a monochrome line sensor part 20. The signal charges of the respective pixels in the pixel row 21 are divided into the two systems of odd pixels and row pixels and they are transferred to the two analog shift registers 23o and 23e. The analog shift registers 23o and 23e horizontally transfer them in parallel. Thus, the number of the signal outputs of a monochrome side is made to be twice as much as the number of signal outputs for the respective colors of a color side.
