PURPOSE: A novel Paenibacillus sp. strain, an extracellular polysaccharide produced therefrom, and a cement additive containing the same are provided. The extracellular polysaccharide has stable viscosity regardless of temperature and pH, and is thus added into a cement for improving properties thereof. CONSTITUTION: A novel Paenibacillus sp. WN9 strain(KCTC 8951P) produces the extracellular polysaccharide, wherein the extracellular polysaccharide has (a) the molecular weight of 31500 kDa, (b) contains mannose, glucose and tyrosine as constitution components, (c) has IR spectrum, (d) maintains viscosity of 797 to 859 cP at 10 to 50 deg. C, (e) maintains viscosity of 208 to 236 cp at pH 3 to 13, and (f) shows pseudoplasticity. A cement additive contains 0.02 to 0.1% of the extracellular polysaccharide produced from the Paenibacillus sp. WN9 strain(KCTC 8951P).
