PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor controlling device and a motor controlling method capable of quickly finding an abnormality in detecting a position and of protecting a device that is connected to a servo motor in the feedback positioning control of the motor. SOLUTION: This motor controlling device comprises a measuring part that measures each pulse width of encoder signals, a measured value storage part that stores the measured values continuously, and a position detector abnormality detecting part that outputs an abnormality detection signal when a difference from the front and rear pulse widths of those measured for a certain period of time is not within a given range.
