PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an EL element capable of emitting white light with high white purity. SOLUTION: This EL element 5 emitting white light is constructed of a transparent support 1, a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 4, and a single organic compound layer 3 or a plurality of organic compound layers 3, clamped between the positive electrode 2 and the negative electrode 4. The positive electrode 2, the negative electrode, and the organic compound layer/ layers 3 are formed on the transparent support 1, and at least one layer forming the organic compound layer 3 is formed so as not to be parallel to the transparent support 1. The organic EL element is formed, so that a distance between the negative electrode 4 and the positive electrode 2 includes any of ranges 200-1,050 nm, 200-350 nm, and 600-1,050 nm.
