TRACING OF OUT-OF-SEQUENCE DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To insert missed data correctly into a data stream if a load miss occurs. SOLUTION: Tracing mechanisms 10 and 12 able to freely respond to a data access miss are provided on an integrated circuit 14 so as to insert a data placeholder 32 into a stream of trace data. When missed data are returned later, the data are inserted into the stream of traced data as a later data value 44. A later analysis of the stream of trace data can correlate an instruction having generated the data miss and the later data returned later.
