PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality by preventing the generation of a glass bubble in an MIG(metal in gap) magnetic head. SOLUTION: The magnetic head is constructed in such a manner that on a sliding surface 9 for sliding of a magnetic recording medium, a groove 6 is provided along a sliding direction relative to the magnetic recording medium in contact with one or both ends of a magnetic gap (g), a nonmagnetic protective film 7 is formed on the inner surface of the groove 6, and a part of a glass surface 5B1 facing the inner surface of the groove 6 and in contact with the nonmagnetic protective film 7 is subjected to ion etching.
