The protective cover for a motor vehicle (10) roof has a hood (12) to fit over the passenger space and with a flexible structure. The hood has an electric circuit (16) which allows release of an alarm (14) if an attempt is made to cut the roof. The circuit can have wires which are driven together if the roof is cut to actuate the alarm.
