PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system for a projector which can efficiently illuminates the image display area of a liquid crystal light valve and a projector equipped with it. SOLUTION: The optical system for the projector which splits the illumination light from a lighting optical system 130 into color lights and guides a color light having longer optical path length to the liquid crystal light valve 160c than that of any other split color light to the liquid crystal light valve 160c by a relay optical system; and a 2nd relay lens 153 among the relay lenses used for the relay optical system, which forms a secondary image on the liquid crystal light valve 160c by again forming a primary image 300 by a 1st lens array 131 of the lighting optical system 130, is formed of an aspheric lens which corrects the luminous flux 310 which forms the border line of a lighting area among the luminous flux forming the primary image so that aberration becomes small. |
