PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the high speed of the address discharge of an AC plasma display device. SOLUTION: This display device is made to have constitution in which the high speed of address discharge is attained by impressing thin with front pulses 105 at a voltage exceeding a discharge starting voltage to a scanning pulse 106 and by performing growth (Townsent's growth process) of space charge with the front pulses 105.
