PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound absorbing material 10 which hardly picks up dirt, due to suspended matter, etc. in the air, on the surface and allows easy removal of the matter sticking thereto. SOLUTION: This material consists of a material having translucency, is formed with many resonators 14 having a cavity 13 to absorb tones by resonance and is formed with a hydrophilic photocatalyst layer 15 on its surface. The hydrophilic photocatalyst layer 15 is made hydrophilic by absorbing UV rays and a thin water film is formed on its surface. The material hardly picks up the suspended matter, etc., in the air which are easily flushed away by rainfall, etc., and therefore a good see-through characteristic can be maintained.
