PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device especially suitable for a backlight of an LCD image screen, and can also achieve uniform and strong illumination of an image screen with a small depth. SOLUTION: The illumination device is equipped with a light emitting surface (11) and a light guide plate (1) which consists of a plurality of channels (20) each storing at least one nearly linear light source (21). This illumination device is especially suitable for a backlight of a liquid crystal display like an LCD image screen, or a flat light radiation unit. This illumination device is specially provided with a first reflection layer (204) on an upper surface (203) facing the light radiation surface (11) of the channels, and also an input joining of light to the light guide plate is proceeded from the side walls (201, 202) of the channels. |
