PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor which can prevent temperature rise of a coil. SOLUTION: This linear motor comprises a plurality of permanent magnets which are disposed to the yoke via magnetic gaps to result in different magnetic poles having the polarities opposed with each other to provide different adjacent magnetic poles, a multi-phase coil provided within the magnetic gap, a coil frame and a carriage. Accordingly, the permanent magnets and multi-phase coil are relatively moved when a drive current is supplied to the multi-phase coil. The linear motor is particularly characterized by providing a cooling means for blowing the air to the rotor in which the multi-phase coil, coil-frame and carriage are integrally fixed.
