PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron beam position detecting mechanism and a cathode-ray tube that can irradiate only a necessary region with an electron beam so as to obscure a seam portion about the center of a screen plane, and are easy to fabricate. SOLUTION: The electron beam position detecting mechanism and the cathode-ray tube have a color sorting means (aperture grille) 12 for color sorting according to incident angles of electron beams 33 to 35; an electron beam position detecting mechanism 5 having first index phosphor layers 1 arranged substantially perpendicularly to a scanning direction of the electron beams and second index phosphor layers 2 inclined at a given angle, between divided regions of a screen part provided with a plurality of parallel phosphor layers and scanned in a plurality of divided regions by the electron beams emitted from a plurality of electron guns and deflected individually by deflecting parts; and a photoelectric converter for converting an electron beam position on the electron beam position detecting mechanism 5 into an electrical signal.
