Zirconium - vanadium - copper alloy - which resists high temps and is esp useful as nuclear reactor components

Zirconium alloy contg. 0.4-1.2 wt % V and 0.05-1% Cu is suitable for use in water/steam environments where temps. may exceed 500 degrees C. When employed in nuclear environments the impurities must be controlled according to the standard ASTM B349-67. In non-nuclear environments the alloy can contain =3 wt % Hf and =1 wt % other usual impurities. The alloy can also resist temps. >550 degrees C for short periods of time which make it useful for the chemical industry in which fuel carrying elements come into contact with superheated steam.
