<p>An injection molding apparatus has a nozzle (12) defining a flow channel (15) and an exit channel (42) and a pair of mold halves (20,26) cooperating to define a mold cavity (22). At least one of the mold halves (20) has a sprue cavity (24) extending between the exit channel and the mold cavity (22). An insert (10) has a finned body sized to frictionally fit within the flow channel (15) to position and stabilize a pin (40) extending from a leading end of the body in the exit channel (42). Melt is caused to flow about the insert (10) and the pin (40) prevents melt from collecting at tip of the exit channel (42) enhancing clean removal of the molded part from the mold cavity (22).</p> |
