摘要 <p>In the field of internal combustion piston engine design, problems of maximizing internal engine efficiency and reliability while reducing cost are solved by this invention. It is an internal combustion piston engine in which each opposed pair of cylinders (1) fires simultaneously, providing symmetric cranking force on the crankshaft (13). Each cylinder (1) is a simple solid of rotation with air-cooling fins (10). Cylinder heads (5) are modular. Each module (5) covers two adjacent cylinders (1), and has liquid cooling channels. All cylinders (1) are identical, and all cylinder heads (5) are identical. The cylinders (1) are held inward against the crankcase (16) by the cylinder heads (5). Each cylinder head (5) is held inward against the cylinders (1) by two tension bolts (42) that span to the opposite cylinder head (5). One tension bolt (42) crosses above the crankcase (16), and one below it. Spark timing intervals of 105 and 135 degrees reduce torsional resonance in the crankshaft, eliminating harmonic balancers.</p>
