<p>The method involves determining a synchronous point for a shift actuator (3) with a gearbox evaluation device (4) and using the stored synchronous point in a gearbox controller (5) to change between first and second control modes of the synchronization process. The gearbox input shaft (2) revolution rate is first changed towards a synchronized revolution rate by a defined minimum amount in a defined period, the shift actuator is in a defined positional range and its position within this range changes by no more than a maximum value in a defined period to fix the synchronous point.
