A heat pump system (160) contains a hydristor pump/motor (162) in fluid and thermodynamic communication with a first heat exhchanger (172) communicating wiht a relatively warm reservoir (174), and a second heat exchager (176) thermodynamically communicating with a relatively cold reservoir (178), whereby the hydristor (162) and the fist and second heat exchangers (172 and 176) are integral to and in fluid communicaiton with a closed compressible fluid loop (164). A stirling engine (178a) or a home heating system or any other cold reservoir may, for example, utilize heat transferred from the second heat exchanger (176) thereby providing a reduction in energy usage and costs heretofore unrealized. |
