1385955 Composite metal bodies VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE AG 27 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 19653/72 Heading C7A A composite metal body, particularly a sheet, comprises a carbon-containing steel base, an intermediate layer of steel containing:- up to 0.05% carbon 1 to 6.00% silicon 1 to 12.00% manganese and up to 0.8 % nitrogen, and a high-alloy steel cladding layer. A preferred composition for the carbon diffusion-inhibiting intermediate layer is:- up to 0.03% carbon 3.5 to 4.5 % silicon 1 to 2.00% manganese up to 0.025% phosphorous up to 0.020% sulphur 12 to 25.00% chromium 8 to 25.00% nickel balance iron and impurities. Sandwiches of intermediate and cladding layers are formed between layers of the base material: these sandwiches are hot-rolled, divided to provide the individual composites, heat treated e.g. at 940‹C, and then coldshaped.
