Membranes with a selective permeability for anions consist of homogeneous and crosslinked terpolymers of butadiene, styrene and vinylpyridine in which the N atoms are wholly or partly present in the quaternary form. The membranes have excellent mechanical properties, low water absorption, high ion exchange capacity, low specific electric resistance and high poermoselectivity. Used for the demineralisation of water, recovery and concentrations of radioactive materials and light metals and purification of proteins or sugar solns.
