The invention relates to 2-thio-substituted imidazole derivatives of formula I, wherein the groups R1, R2, R3 and R4 are defined as per the description. The inventive compounds have an immunomodulating action and/or an inhibitive action on the release of cytokine and are therefore suitable for treating diseases, which are related to the dysfunction of the immune system.
