Data recorded on a write once read many recording disc, e.g. a CD-R disc can be completely erased easily at a low cost by executing overwrite on the recorded area. It is judged whether a loaded optical disc (111) is a write once read many type or not. If it is not a write once read many optical disc (111), disc record information recorded on the optical disc (111) is acquired according to the instruction of a host computer (21). The recorded area of the optical disc (111) is overwriten by irradiating it with a laser beam of a recording power equal to, or higher than, the recording power of the recording mode, thus erasing the recorded data. |
