<p>The invention relates to a method to differentiate feline infectious peritonitis viruses (FIPV) from feline enteric coronaviruses (FECV). The invention provides a method allowing for antemortem diagnosis for distinguishing a feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) infection from a feline enteric coronavirus (FECV) infection comprising detecting coronavirus in non-enteric cells in a sample obtained from a cat suspected of being infected with FIPV and/or FECV. Provided are methods for the detection of a replicating FIPV in order to distinguish a FIPV coronavirus infection from a FECV infection, including diagnostic kits and a cat or cat population diagnosed with such kits.</p> |
