<p>An ultraviolet ray absorbing colorless transparent soda-lime-silica glass which has a vanadium oxide content of 0.04 to 0.10 wt % in terms of V2O5, a manganese oxide content of 0.04 to 0.13 wt % in terms of MnO, a weight ratio of vanadium oxide to manganese oxide is 0.6 to 1.7 in terms of V2O5/MnO; a method for preparing said glass, which comprises melting a batch composition containing sand, soda ash, calcitic limestone, carbon and mirabilite, and adding a colored frit or colored pellet containing vanadium oxide and a colored frit or colored pellet containing manganese oxide in a feeder; and a container comprising said glass. The ultraviolet ray absorbing colorless transparent soda-lime-silica glass and the glass container is capable of absorbing ultraviolet rays while maintaining high light transmittance in a visible region and thus allows an article in the container to be seen as it is and also to be prevented from being colored, discolored, faded or reduced in fragrance by ultraviolet rays, and further can be usually reused as a cullet of flint slass.</p> |
