Method for locating objects, e.g. files, with a fixed space, e.g. a room. All objects have an optical marker attached to their outside representing a corresponding code. A computer contains a list of codes and corresponding object descriptions. All storage, positioning and work areas within a room can be viewed with a number of computer-connected cameras so that the position of each object in a room or space can be recorded in the computer so that when a user enters an object description he can be immediately guided to the object location.
