PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester polymerization catalyst that is a polymerization catalyst comprising as the primary metal component of the catalyst a metal component other than antimony and germanium, and is excellent in catalytic activity and that is improved in problems of filter clogging, etc., which occur during molding by producing a polyester using the catalyst, a polyester produced using the polyester polymerization catalyst and a process for producing the polyester using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The polyester polymerization catalyst comprises an aluminum compound in combination with a phenolic compound and/or a phosphorus compound or a phosphorus compound having a phenolic portion in the same molecule, and further comprises as a secondary metal-containing component at the same time a least one selected from the group consisting of antimony, germanium, titanium, tin, cobalt, manganese, zinc, niobium, tantalum, tungsten, indium, zirconium, hafnium, silicon, iron, nickel, gallium and the compound thereof.
