PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compacting apparatus by which the collapse or dislocation of a compact at the time of compacting in among each stage is prevented, and can cope with the increase of the carrying speed. SOLUTION: The compacting apparatus is provided with a metal mold consisting of a die 5 having a compacting space and upper and lower punch units, and a press driving mechanism respectively independently driving the upper and lower punch units, and performing compacting. In the apparatus, when a compact subjected to compacting is carried, the compact is held by engaging the compact with the lower first and second punches 7a and 7b (compact holding means).
