PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-solid antifouling coating material having excellent antifouling property and coating film properties and meeting the environmental and resource-saving requirements. SOLUTION: The antifouling coating material contains a varnish of a metal- containing acrylic resin having at least one group expressed by formula (1) (X is a group of formula (2); (n) is 0 or 1; Y is a hydrocarbon group; M is a metal; (m) is an integer equal to the valence of the metal M minus 1; and A is an organic acid residue of a monobasic acid). The metal-containing acrylic resin varnish has a non-volatile content of >=40 wt.% and a viscosity of <=18 poise at 25 deg.C and the content of organic solvent (VOC) in the antifouling coating material is <=400 g/L.
