PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a measured distance by a digital display meter by linearly moving a reflecting mirror provided at an optical path, gaining the measured distance according to this moving amount, and converting a distance display scale or the moving amount into an electric signal and to perform an improvement in a measuring accuracy in an overall measuring area at a low manufacturing cost in any of the distance display scale and the digital meter display since a linear function is satisfied between the moving amount and the measured distance. SOLUTION: A range finder linearly drives the reflecting mirror 4 provided at the optical path by a belt 5, converts the moving distance of the mirror 4 by a potentiometer 6 directly coupled to its drive shaft into the electric signal, and displays the measured distance by the digital display meter through a measuring circuit. The distance is obtained from the scale by a pointer provided at the mirror 4 in the case of using the distance display scale.
