PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a polyether containing a small amount of a catalyst. SOLUTION: A polyether containing a catalyst, obtained by ring-opening polymerization of a 3C or higher monoepoxide in the presence of a composite metal cyanide complex catalyst, is treated with a treating agent containing a magnesium aluminum compound oxide thereby to deactivate the catalyst, and subsequently the deactivated catalyst and the treating agent are removed.
