PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dressing method for a grinding wheel for maintaining sharpness by reducing the frequency of dressing while maintaining good sharpness of the grinding wheel, performing dressing work at an accurate timing and maintaining further more sharpness of the grinding wheel. SOLUTION: Vibration generated during grinding a work W with the grinding wheel 26 being normally rotated is detected by a vibration detector 34. When the amplitude of the vibration gets to 0.10-0.25μm, grinding work is stopped. Then, grinding work for the work W is performed by the grinding wheel 26 reversely rotated and the normal rotation and reverse rotation of the grinding wheel 26 are repeated at least once, and when the amplitude of the vibration detected by the vibration detector 34 gets to 0.60-0.70μm, the grinding work is stopped and dressing work of the grinding wheel 26 is carried out.
