A 1H-imidazopyridine derivative or a salt thereof has the formula (I) or (II) wherein R1 is hydrogen, hydroxyl or optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, styryl, or aryl; R2 is hydrogen, alkyl, halogen, hydroxyl or an optionally substituted amino, a cyclic amino, or a phenoxy; Ring A is an optionally substituted carbocyclic or a heterocyclic ring; R3 is an optionally substituted saturated nitrogen-containing heterocyclic; m is an integer from 0 to 3; R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, benzyl, triphenylmethyl or optionally substituted alkanoyl, alkoxycarbonyl, benzyloxycarbonyl, an optionally substituted thiocarbamoyl, alkanesulphonyl, optionally substituted benzenesulphonyl or amidine; Y is methylene, oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen, NH, or a single bond and n is 0 to 2 provided that, when R3 is an unsubstituted piperidino, at least one of R1 and R2 is not hydrogen atom. A pharmaceutical composition thereof is useful for treating diseases in which a cytokine is mediated.
