<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical component (variable light attenuator) which has an excellent wavelength property and temperature property that the quantity of light attenuation is hardly varied by wavelength and temperature. SOLUTION: A polarizer 2, a Faraday rotator 3, a linear phase element 4 and an analyzer 5 are arranged and disposed in order in the propagating direction of light. Although the Faraday rotator 3 generates an inappropriate wavelength property and temperature property that the quantity of light attenuation is varied by wavelength and temperature, the thickness in the light propagating direction of the linear phase element 4 and the angle of inclination in the crystal optical axis direction of the linear phase element 4 with respect to the transmission axis direction of the analyzer (polarizer) 5 are properly set and, thereby, a wavelength property and temperature property for compensating the wavelength property and temperature property due to the Faraday rotator 3 is given. As a result, the optical component (variable light attenuator) 1 having the excellent wavelength property and temperature property that the quantity of light attenuation is not varied by wavelength and temperature can be provided.</p> |
