PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the configuration and processing of an apparatus for detecting the failure in a measuring instrument. SOLUTION: An R/D converter 22 generates a measurement valueθof a rotary angle from the output signal of a resolver 20. The rotary angleθdetected by the R/D converter 22 is supplied for utilization by a rotary machine control section 28, and at the same time, is inputted to a modulation signal reproduction section 24. The modulation signal reproduction section 24 reproduces an amplitude modulation signal in a resolver output signal based on a measurement valueθ. The modulation signal is compared with the resolver output signal by a failure judgment section 26, and it is judged whether the R/D converter 22 is normal or not based on the comparison result.
