PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic hybrid polymeric material suitable for use as a structural material of a photosensitive layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a surface modifier, a hardcoat material and the like, which is obtained using a hydrophobic organic polymer excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strengths and water resistance. SOLUTION: The terminally silyl-modified polycarbonate is synthesized by reacting a dihydric phenolic compound, a carbonic ester-forming compound and a terminating agent bearing a group of general formula (1): -SiR3-nXn (wherein R is an organic group having a structure where a carbon atom is directly bonded to the silicon atom; X is a hydrolyzable group; and n is an integer of 1-3).
