PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shut height adjusting method by which the shut height is surely adjusted in one cycle while high productivity is maintained, and the thickness accuracy of a forging is kept constant. SOLUTION: During the continuous striking operation of a forging press 1, a slide 40 is stopped for a longer time in the cycle for adjusting the shut height than in the cycle for performing only the striking at a top dead center, and the rotation of an off-centered shaft 20 is stopped until the adjustment of the shut height is completed. Even if the continuous striking is performed at high speed, the shut height can be completed within one stroke, and variance of the accuracy of products can be eliminated. In addition, the time for adjusting the shut height is increased, the shut height can be reliably adjusted with high accuracy. After the adjustment of the shut height is completed, the high-speed operation of a short time per hour is performed, and the high productivity can be maintained thereby.
