PURPOSE: A backlight assembly and an LCD having the same are provided to reduce the contact area between a plurality of optical sheets secured between a light guide panel and an LCD panel and minimize the coefficient of friction, thereby preventing the sheet shrivel due to the close contact of the optical sheets. CONSTITUTION: A backlight assembly includes a light emitting unit(100) for generating light, a light guide unit(202) for guiding light to a display unit(400) for displaying images, and an optical control unit(330) interposed between the light guide element and the display unit for improving the luminance of the light from the light guide element, wherein in the optical control element, either a top surface facing the display unit or a bottom surface facing the light guide element is not flat.
