PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of an electrode used for a plasma torch used for cutting while keeping the cutting quality. SOLUTION: An electrode material 2 is embedded via metallic layer 3 on the side of the end face 1a of a holder 1 of an electrode A which is used for generating a plasma arc by being applied with an electric current of 200 A or larger. The electrode A is composed of a holder 1 and an electrode member 2. The end face 1a of the holder 1 is copper or a copper alloy which has an outer diameter of 8 mm to 9 mm, a hole 1c of which the inner diameter is 2 mm to 3 mm is formed at the near center of the end face 1a, further a cooling port through which a coolant is circulated is formed on the reverse face side 1b opposite to the hole 1c. The electrode member 2 is made of hafnium and has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the hole 1c formed in the holder 1, and is embedded in the hole 1c via a metallic layer 3 which is made of a metal selected from silver, a silver alloy, gold, and a gold alloy. |
