PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an organohalosilane by which the production rate can remarkably be improved without lowering the selectivity of an effective silane. SOLUTION: This method for producing the organohalosilane comprises using a catalyst substance composed of metallic silicon and a catalyst component and containing an effective amount of a catalyst metal powder produced by an atomizing method in the method for producing the organohalosilane represented by the general formula (1) RnHmSiX4-n-m (1) (R denotes a monovalent hydrocarbon; X denotes a halogen; n and m are each an integer of 0-3; and n+m satisfies 1-3) comprising reacting metallic silicon particles with an organohalide in the presence of a copper catalyst.
