PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of easily permitting friction agitation joining even with a three-dimensionally curved area. SOLUTION: Joining flange sections F1 and F2 previously curved at members W1 and W2 to be joined are abutted against each other so as to attain the state of a so-called edge joint. A projecting part 3 of an agitating rod 1 is inserted in the spacing of inner flanks S1 and S2 of the ends facing each other form end faces E1 and E2 side of the joining flange sections F1 and F2, by which the shoulder surface 4 thereof is brought into tight contact with the end faces E1 and E2. While the agitating rod 1 is rotated, the joining flange sections F1 and F2 are fed to these sections in the longitudinal direction, by which the three-dimensionally curved joining flange sections F1 and F2 are subjected successively to friction agitation joining. |
