PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of obtaining appropriate through picture display in the case of using the same imaging device both for through-pictures display and the focusing detection of a phase difference detection system. SOLUTION: This camera is equipped with the imaging device 18 for photoelectrically converting a subject image and outputting a picture signal, a pupil division means 17 capable of selectively taking either a state where the passing area of the luminous flux of the subject image to the imaging device is not restricted or a state where it is restricted for the purpose of focusing operation, a pupil division driving means 19 for driving the pupil division means so that the picture signal at the area non-restricting time may be outputted between the picture signals at the area restricting time by intermittently setting the pupil division means in an area restricting state in the midst of performing focusing operation once, and a focusing detection means 23 detecting a focusing state according to the picture signal at the area restricting time. |
