1373856 Laminated magnetic card PITNEYBOWES Inc 20 June 1972 [9 July 1971] 28904/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division B6] A laminated magnetically codable card has at least one layer 12 of copolymerized vinyl chloride and acetate and a strip 18 of a magnetic recording tape of compatible vinyl material extending thereacross integrally bonded to the layer 12 and with the exposed surface flush with the surface of the layer. As shown, the card comprises an opaque core 16 having transparent outer layers 12, 14 all made of the vinyl copolymer. The magnetic tape 18 is of polyvinylchloride having a magnetic oxide coating 22. An array of cards may be formed on a stock sheet having a dull matt surface by (1) applying stripes of a solvent therefor, e.g. a ketone, with a roller (2) pressing the magnetic tapes on the thus-treated areas, (3) fusing the tape to the layer, e.g. at 135-150‹ C. and 400 p.s.i., and ensuring a flush finish by employing smooth pressure plates and (4) cutting the cards from the sheet. |
