PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side step for an automobile made of an aluminum alloy, which is lightweight and superior in shock absorbing efficiency at side collision. SOLUTION: This side step 1a for the automobile made of an aluminum alloy is installed on the lower part of an automobile body side door C1 and extends almost to the horizontal direction along the automobile body. The side step 1a is equipped with a shock absorbing part 8a for side collision. The shock absorbing part 8a is installed at a height corresponding to the height of a bumper reinforcing member B2 of another ordinary passenger car body A2.
