PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge gas treater made highly efficient and low-cost by defining the suitable range of a pulse voltage applied to a discharge treatment section from a pulse voltage source in respect of the relation with the structure of the discharge treatment section. SOLUTION: The discharge gas treater is provided with a discharge treatment section 2 having a cylindrical electrode 4 and a linear electrode 6 which are coaxially disposed and into the space between which the gas 12 to be treated is introduced and a pulse source that applies a positively polar pulse voltage positive on the side of the electrode 6 to generate a corona discharge in the gas. The peak value of the pulse voltage applied to the section 2 from the source has a value 1.25 to 2.5 times as large as the pulse corona discharge initiation voltage Vpc [V], wherein Vpc= 1685δ+1818√(δ/Di)Di.ln(Do/Di) (whereinδis the relative density of the gas 12 as measured when the density of the gas at 25 deg.C under 1 atm is taken as 1; Di is the outside diameter [mm] of the electrode 6, and Do is the inside diameter [mm] of the electrode 4).
