PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the good quality of a cast slab by reducing the variation of compressive force applied to the cast slab due to the influence of roll bending, etc., at casting time and thereby always applying suitable compressive force to the cast slab. SOLUTION: The controller for compressive force applied to the cast slab is provided with an individual roll speed controller 26 for performing the speed control with drooping characteristic for each pinch roll, a cast slab speed controller 23 for controlling the drawing speed of the whole cast slab based on a carrying speed of the cast slab, a drawing resistance estimating device 24 dividing a plurality of pinch rolls into a plurality of groups and obtaining an estimated value of the drawing resistance developed in each group based on the output of the cast slab controller 23 and a pinch roll pressurized force in each group, and a speed correction amount setting device 25 determining a pinch roll torque target value to be outputted in each group based on the compressive force target value in between respective groups and the estimated value of the drawing resistance developed in the group outputted with the drawing resistance device 24 and determining the speed control amount of the individual roll speed control device 26 corresponding to the torque target value determined by the device 25.
