PURPOSE: A method for measuring traffic volume in a mobile system is provided to measure the traffic volume of a transport channel at an arbitrary measurement mode according to a relevant measurement basis using the measurement information provided to a MAC(Medium Access Control) layer and to report a measured result to an upper RRC(Radio Resource Control) layer. CONSTITUTION: An RRC layer provides measurement information to a MAC layer so as to dynamically allocate radio resources according to traffic volume. Then the RRC layer transfers the buffer occupancy of each logical channel to the MAC layer. In case that the provided measurement information indicates an event trigger mode, the MAC layer checks whether transport channel traffic volume is out of a preset threshold. If transport channel traffic volume is out of the preset threshold, the MAC layer reports the result to the RRC layer. In case that the provided measurement information indicates a periodic mode, the MAC layer reports buffer occupancy for each logical channel, the average of buffer occupancy, and variation information in buffer occupancy to the RRC layer every settled period.
