PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for reducing a sulfur oxide that is excellent in selectivity to the sulfur oxide and catalyst activities and is capable of retaining the high activities even at low temperature. SOLUTION: The catalyst having ruthenium supported thereon is used for reducing a sulfur oxide containing a metal oxide such as titanium oxide, preferably sulfur dioxide.
