PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illegal action detecting method for medal counter effective for preventing an illegal action by surely detecting the illegal action to a medal counter and suppressing damage caused by the illegal action. SOLUTION: After a medal is detected by a medal passing sensor 2d of a medal counter 2, the medal is further detected by a medal passing sensor 4 for illegal action detection and when the medal passing sensor 4 for illegal action detection can not detect the medal within prescribed time after the medal passing sensor 2d detects the medal, it is judged as illegal action.
