PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably and exactly detect and display the quantity of a liquid in a container in spite of providing no water quantity detection means. SOLUTION: This water heater is provided with the container 1 for housing the liquid, a heating means 2 for heating the liquid in the container 1, a temperature detection means 3 for detecting the temperature of the liquid, a discharging means 5 for discharging the liquid from the container 1, a discharging control means 4 for controlling the means 5, a discharged quantity detection means 6 for detecting the quantity discharged by the means 5, an arithmetic processing means 8 for calculation, and a display means 9 for displaying the residual water quantity of the liquid. The quantity of the liquid is calculated from the inclination of temperature rising while heating the liquid. The means 8 obtains the residual water quantity of the liquid in the container 1 from the quantity of the liquid and the discharged quantity detected by the means 6, and the means 9 displays the residual water quantity.
