PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus having a simple structure and capable of performing the anaerobic treatment of excretion in a narrow space. SOLUTION: A scum flotation preventing member is provided to a water tank, which has a length at least twice the width crossing the advance direction of a liquid to be treated at a right angle thereof and has an inlet and an outlet and houses biomass, at a position lower than the liquid level of the liquid to be treated and a cover member is provided to the water tank so as to airtightly cover the whole thereof and piping for venting generated methane gas is provided to the cover member.
